Umarell is the brainchild of Martin Giovannella, musician and producer turned graphic designer from Bologna, Italy born in 2005. The project kicked off in 2023 with a collaboration featuring Agnese Ghini lending her vocals for the debut album “CANTIERE,” released in May. Drawing from diverse influences like electronic, indie, alternative, trap, sprinkled with hints of grime, drum and bass, and trip hop, Umarell embodies a strong indie sleaze / dad-fashion identity. The sophomore album, “BOLOGNA!,” pays homage to the city that birthed the group. It’s a nostalgic journey through Bologna’s iconic landmarks, cherished individuals, unique dialect, cuisine, and the rebellious spirit of Bolognese adolescence. The album concludes with a heartfelt ode to the Garisenda Tower, now facing the threat of collapse. “BOLOGNA!” serves as a farewell to an old friend, symbolizing the unexpected collapse of a once-stable element.
